Westview’s Asa Barnes Set to Announce College Decision, Elite Three-Year Résumé on Full Display

Westview High School standout Asa Barnes will make his college decision public on July 29th, and the tape backing up that announcement speaks for itself. Over three varsity seasons as a Charger, Barnes built one of the most complete two-way résumés in recent memory, and his final list reflects it: Arkansas, Florida State, USC, and Tennessee.

On offense, Barnes rushed for 2,337 yards on 268 carries and scored 47 total rushing touchdowns during his Westview career. He was more than just a runner, too, adding 45 receptions for 796 yards and eight more scores through the air, giving him a role as both a workhorse ball carrier and a legitimate receiving threat out of the backfield.

The defensive side of his profile is where Barnes truly separates himself. He racked up 147 total tackles, 58 of them unassisted, to go along with two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. His playmaking ability extended into the secondary as well, where he picked off five passes, including one returned for a touchdown. Add in two hurries, two blocked kicks, and a sack that led to a safety, and it becomes clear Barnes was a disruptive presence on every level of the defense.

Barnes also made his mark on special teams, taking a kickoff back for a touchdown and recovering a punt snap for a score, the kind of splash plays that show up on highlight reels and swing momentum in big games.

With four major programs in the mix, Barnes’ decision on July 29th will be one to watch. Whichever school lands him gets a rare dual-threat athlete who impacted winning on offense, defense, and special teams throughout his high school career.

Stay tuned to NILvana Sports for coverage of Barnes’ announcement.
