Gabe Jacas Scouting Report
Gabe Jacas enters the draft process as a physically imposing edge defender who has been a consistent presence along the defensive front for the Illinois Fighting Illini football. A three-time All-Big Ten selection, Jacas has developed into a productive, physical defender over his four years at Illinois. Standing at 6 ‘3, 270lbs, Jacas possesses interior defensive line power with the length of an edge rusher, a rare combination that should allow Jacas’s stock to climb throughout the predraft process.

As a pass rusher, Jacas relies primarily on a strong bullrush to win against offensive tackles, and uses his rare strength to create knockback against offensive lineman. When his initial rush does not immediately produce pressure, Jacas does an adequate job of retracing his path and working back toward the quarterback to affect the throwing lane. However, his pass rush bag is limited due to Jacas’s lack of explosiveness and overall speed.
One of Jacas’ most effective traits is his hand usage. He consistently plays with heavy hands, and uses his long arms to control offensive players. His ability to shock offensive lineman, lock out his arms, and violently shed the blocker away from him allowed Jacas to create disruption in the backfield. His physicality and play strength also translate well when taking on pulling blockers, and in two-gap situations. Jacas can effectively box the run back inside toward his interior defenders, using his size to prevent himself from being outleveraged.
Overall, Jacas is an experienced edge rusher with phenomenal physical traits that will carry over to the NFL effectively. If Jacas can improve his acceleration and pass rush plan, then he will blossom into a highly productive three-down pass rusher.
Scheme and Team Fit: Seattle Seahawks / San Francisco 49ers
Jacas would fit best in a traditional 4-3 defense who places bigger defensive ends to the field side such as the Seattle Seahawks or San Francisco 49ers defenses. Both teams utilize bigger defensive ends who are capable of taking on kickout blocks, and double teams to the field side.
NFL Player Comp: Matt Judon (Bills)
Gabe Jacas’ NFL comparison is Matt Judon, because like Jacas’, Judon wins with power more than speed, and also has strong edge setting capabilities.
Projection: Low End Starter
Jacas has the size, physicality, and experience to be a successful edge rusher at the next level. If he can improve his overall speed, and pash rush bag of tricks, then Jacas will ultimately reach high end starter status.
Grade and Round Projection: 4, 4th Round Pick
Jacas is projected as a 4th round pick, and grades out as a 4 out of 7. Improved speed, quickness, and overall pass rush bag of tricks will allow Jacas to reach NFL plus starter status.
