Ty Simpson, QB, University of Alabama
Ty Simpson is a 6’2, 208-pound quarterback out of the University of Alabama. He was a five-star recruit in the class of 2022, ranked 29th in the nation and 4th among Quarterbacks. He committed to play for Alabama on February 26th, 2021, and played at Alabama in 2022, 2023, 2024, & 2025. His only full season as a starter was in 2025, when he made the College Football Playoff and beat Oklahoma in the first round. Alabama made it to round two and ultimately lost to the National Champions, the Indiana Sooners. During the 2025 season, Simpson led Alabama to an 11-4 record and totaled a 64% completion percentage, 3,567 yards passing, 28 passing touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. Ty Simpson’s father is the Head Football Coach at UT Martin.
Simpson is mobile with a solid frame. He runs well, with a rumored 40-time of 4.80 seconds. He shows enough burst to escape pressure and picks up yards when necessary. He is strong enough to break off weak tackles. Hand strength while holding onto the ball will need to improve, as he has some fumbling concerns. He shows the ability to work through multiple reads and takes the checkdown when needed. Pocket presence is solid; he drifts in the pocket while under pressure. He locks onto his first read, but hesitates slightly due to inexperience at the college level.
Displays good short accuracy consistently hitting his man in the numbers. His medium accuracy is close to elite while throwing in breaking routes and sideline throws. His deep accuracy needs improvement, as he is inconsistent with deep-ball placement, which is tied to his overall layering ability. On the run, he is great and hits his man in stride consistently. He is a great decision maker, as he had an impressive 20 touchdowns to 1 interception at one point in the 2025 season. Simpson throws with enough zip to fit the ball into tight windows. His release point is consistent and quick. He can protect his receivers with an impressive 84.2% catchable ball rate. Although his foot work becomes inconsistent while under pressure, especially while throwing deep routes. He possesses solid pocket ability, feeling the edge, and knowing when to climb when lanes open up. However, he tries to escape the pocket prematurely under pressure. To counter his inexperience handling pressure, teams can use designed rollouts, allowing him to be creative and make those big plays out of the pocket. Presnap he often uses motion to check the coverage. While at away games, he kicks his right leg up to indicate to his center when to snap the ball.
Ty Simpson stands out with his ball placement over the middle with his 84.2% catchable ball rating. His ability on the run is outstanding and will be very usable in heavy RPO packages. Teams will love his ability to protect the ball with his elite decision-making, indicated by having 20 touchdowns to 1 interception while leading Alabama to a 6-1 start to the 2025 season. After suffering a back injury against South Carolina, he started to throw more interceptions. If Simpson can control his pressure management and is placed in the proper scheme, he has the potential to be an average NFL starter.
