In his senior season, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has another significant achievement: a high-profile NIL deal with Nike. Friday saw the announcement, and technically, he became one of the most recent college football stars recruited by the sportswear giant.
Emerging as one of the best in the nation
This has seen Nussmeier emerge as one of the best quarterbacks in college football. In the previous season, he completed 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns, which made him a real leader of the Tigers. He has so far led LSU to a 2-0 record and a national ranking of 3. Nussmeier, according to On3, is worth $4 million on NIL
- Ranked No. 4 out of all college football players.
- No. 5 of the On3 NIL 100, ranking the highest-earning high school and college athletes.
That valuation places him among Arch Manning, Carson Beck, and Jeremiah Smith, making him one of the most marketable players in the sport.
In agreeing to sign with Nike, Nussmeier joins a strong college team that already includes Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams and Penn State quarterback Drew Allar. To Nussmeier, this is not the first of a series of such endorsements, which are proving his popularity on and off the field.
NFL Future on the Horizon
Even though Nussmeier was eligible to participate in the 2024 NFL Draft, he decided to spend another year at LSU. Not only does his decision increase the likelihood of the Tigers competing in a national championship, but it also marks him as one of the most well-compensated quarterbacks in college football since he is making approximately $1.6 million in NIL money this year.
Thus far, he has made 54 out of 79 passes or 469 yards, two goals, and one interception in two games, which demonstrates his maturity and consistency, which LSU fans were expecting.
Analysts Praise His Development
SEC Network analyst and former NFL quarterback Jordan Rodgers was surprised by Nussmeier’s performance in the Tigers’ season opener against Clemson. Rodgers complimented Nussmeier on his reading of defenses, control protection, and alteration of plays before the ball snap, labeling him as the most NFL-ready quarterback in the country at that point.
He pointed to how Nussmeier remained cool when it was needed most, making five of six passes that gained 52 yards and four first downs, and how he had made better choices than he had last year. Rodgers even suggested that Nussmeier was playing a B-minus game against Clemson, but he was able to play the No. 4 team in the country on the road.
