When Bowling Green State University labeled Caden Marshall a “Player to Watch,” they weren’t exaggerating. The redshirt freshman linebacker has emerged as one of the top young defenders in college football, and Henry County fans back home in Paris, Tennessee, couldn’t be prouder.
From Patriot to Playmaker
Marshall, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound former Henry County High School standout, made a name for himself as a dual-threat quarterback and defensive enforcer. He earned all-state honors and was a 2023 Class 5A Mr. Football finalist, known for his leadership, grit, and athleticism on both sides of the ball.
Now at Bowling Green, those same traits are turning heads across the FBS.
Freshman Impact
Through five games this season, Marshall has quickly made his presence known. He earned his first career start against Louisville, racking up eight tackles and a sack. The following week at Ohio, he totaled four more tackles, then added five more stops against Toledo.
What sets him apart is production beyond his years. Marshall is the only freshman in the FBS with over 30 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and three pass breakups this season, a rare combination of strength and awareness that’s catching the attention of coaches and analysts nationwide.
The Future Looks Bright
It’s no surprise to anyone in Henry County that Marshall’s making this kind of noise. He’s always had the drive, discipline, and leadership to excel at the next level. With his blend of intelligence and toughness, the former Patriot could soon become one of the most feared linebackers in the MAC.
As Bowling Green continues, all eyes will be on the Paris, Tennessee, product proving that small-town talent can shine on college football’s biggest stages.
