Enough Is Enough! Titans Fire Brian Callahan.
The Callahan Catastrophe
Brian Callahan’s tenure has been disastrous from the outset. His team lacks direction, energy, and preparation. The Titans are not only losing, they’re being embarrassed. In four games, they’ve shown little to no offensive identity, while the defense looks lost and undisciplined.
Rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick, is being left to rot behind a broken system. After Sunday’s loss, Ward’s frustration boiled over:
Statistically, Callahan is already among the worst head coaches in NFL history. His career winning percentage sits at 15.0 percent, lower than even Marty Mornhinweg (15.6 percent) and Steve Spagnuolo (21.1 percent), coaches long synonymous with failure. That number is more than just trivia. It’s the mark of a coach in over his head.
Possible Interim Replacements
The Titans are expected to name an interim head coach soon, with two primary candidates emerging:
Dennard Wilson (Defensive Coordinator): A fiery and respected leader, Wilson’s defense has struggled, mainly due to a lack of talent rather than effort. His energy and locker-room respect make him a logical choice.
John “Bones” Fassel (Special Teams Coordinator): Fassel’s unit is the team’s lone bright spot. The veteran coach served as interim for the Rams in 2016 and could stabilize the locker room while preserving his special teams leadership role long-term.
Either choice would be an improvement over the current state of chaos.
The Path Forward
Firing Callahan won’t immediately fix the Titans, but keeping him sends the message that mediocrity is acceptable. Amy Adams Strunk must examine her leadership structure and the people she’s entrusted to run this franchise.
Accountability starts at the top, and until the organization embraces that, it doesn’t matter who wears the headset on Sundays.
Tennessee football deserves better. The fans deserve better. And if Strunk doesn’t act now, her franchise may be beyond saving.
