With just weeks remaining until kickoff, South Alabama’s defensive line is adding a new weapon, and he is bringing both size and swagger. Emmanuel Waller, a 6’3”, 267-pound edge rusher, joins the Jaguars after spending his first two seasons at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2024, Waller recorded seven total tackles and one sack, but he is eager to elevate his game in his new home.
Waller’s confidence was evident when asked about the move to South Alabama. “The transition was great. I like the chemistry with the team,” he said. That chemistry could prove vital for a Jaguars squad looking to build on last season’s momentum. For Waller, it is more than just fitting in; it is about making an impact. His top goal for 2025 is simple: see the field more and help his team win.
“I bring physicality,” Waller stated without hesitation. It is a description that suits his playing style perfectly. Watching him on the field, it is clear he does not shy away from contact. In fact, he seeks it out. “My biggest focus during the offseason was the playbook. A lot of change in a short period, but it can be done.”
South Alabama’s defensive mindset matches Waller’s aggressive energy. “The mentality of the team is to be relentless and disciplined in the way we do things, and play with relentless effort on the field,” he explained. It is a culture built for competition, and one that could see Waller thrive.
The hype around the Jaguars is building, and with Waller bringing his edge, both literally and figuratively, the question now is how long they can sustain the fire.
