Jacobi Melton has become one of the most productive playmakers in West Tennessee, and college coaches are starting to take notice. The McKenzie High School junior wide receiver and running back stands 5-foot-9, 160 pounds, but his game plays much bigger than his frame. Melton has built his reputation as a do-it-all weapon who can line up in the backfield, split out wide, or take the top off a defense on special teams.
Melton was a driving force behind a McKenzie offense that helped carry the Rebels to a 13-game winning streak and a trip to the TSSAA Class 1A state championship game last season. He finished the year with 989 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, ranking among the top receivers in the region and leading McKenzie in receiving yards per game. He opened the season in dominant fashion, hauling in 11 catches for 265 yards and two touchdowns in his Week 1 performance, and adding a 90-yard kickoff return for good measure. McKenzie went on to win the Region 6-1A championship before falling 42-14 in the state title game, a run that put Melton and the Rebels squarely on the map across Tennessee high school football.
The Offers Are Rolling In
Melton’s tape has done the talking, and FBS programs are responding. He has picked up offers from Tulane, Toledo, James Madison, and East Carolina, a group that spans the Sun Belt, MAC, and AAC. He has also taken visits to high-profile programs, including a trip to Ohio State for a camp and spring evaluation, and a visit to Memphis to work directly with the coaching staff there.
A Multi-Sport Athlete With Room to Grow
Football is not the only place Melton has made his mark. He has also competed for McKenzie in basketball and baseball, giving him the kind of all-around athletic background that shows up in his football tape through his change of direction, ball skills, and explosiveness after the catch. That well-rounded foundation, paired with a 3.1 GPA in the classroom, gives him the profile college coaches love to build around: a productive playmaker who is also a program fit off the field.
What Comes Next
With a full junior season still ahead of him and an offer list that is only getting longer, Jacobi Melton is positioned to be one of the names to watch out of West Tennessee heading into the fall. If his 2025 production is any indication, defenses across the region should expect more of the same, and college coaches will keep circling back to McKenzie, Tennessee, to see it in person.

NILvana Sports will continue tracking Jacobi Melton’s recruitment as his senior season approaches.
