Physical Profile

Young brings a thick-built, compact 5’11”, 200-pound frame with outstanding lower-body strength and natural density. He already possesses a college-ready build and consistently plays with the physicality of a much older player. His frame allows him to absorb and deliver contact while maintaining balance and downhill momentum throughout runs.

Athletically, Young displays explosive acceleration through the first level and sudden movement ability in tight spaces. While he may not possess elite track-level long speed, he has more than enough burst to create explosive plays and finish runs in the open field. His lateral agility and change-of-direction ability stand out because of how efficiently he redirects without wasted movement or loss of momentum.

Player Summary

Jahnard Young is a violent downhill running back with explosive burst, elite contact balance, and one of the more physically advanced profiles in the 2027 class. He consistently creates extra yardage through power, balance, and controlled aggression while still showing the agility to make defenders miss laterally. His combination of vision, physicality, and acceleration gives him legitimate Group of Five upside with the potential to outperform his current recruiting attention as his game continues developing.

Trait Evaluation

Movement Skills
Young moves with explosive urgency and sharp, controlled lateral quickness. His first-step acceleration allows him to attack open lanes immediately, while his compact movement style helps him stay square and downhill through traffic. He transitions smoothly from cuts into acceleration and consistently maintains balance while redirecting around defenders. His low pad level and natural bend make him difficult to square up cleanly in space.

Physicality
Physicality is the defining trait of Young’s game. He runs with violence, urgency, and a constant forward lean, consistently finishing through contact and generating extra yardage after first contact. His contact balance is exceptional, allowing him to absorb hits while staying upright and maintaining momentum. He embraces physical football and repeatedly imposes his frame on defenders throughout the game.

Football Intelligence
Young displays natural running instincts and advanced feel between the tackles. He processes leverage and blocking flow quickly while understanding when to press the line, bounce outside, or cut vertically. His backside vision stands out consistently, particularly when front-side running lanes collapse. He operates with discipline and confidence while maximizing available space efficiently.
