Arvell Reese is a linebacker/edge rusher from The Ohio State University. He is from Cleveland, Ohio, and attended Glenville HS. He measured in at 6’4 “and 241 pounds at the NFL Combine. He spent his entire college career at Ohio St. He won a state title while in high school and was selected to the Army All-American Bowl. Reese was also a finalist for the Butkus Award in 2022. His injury history is minor; he had only a concussion in his freshman year, which caused him to miss about a month. Reese is also an All-American with first-team honors by the Associated Press, Football Coaches Association of America, and Walter Camp First-Team all-Big Ten selection.

Reese’s long frame makes him one of the better prospects of the draft as he is able to compete and hold his own against bigger opponents. The best part of his game is his first step and explosiveness. He is able to get into the backfield quickly and disrupt the pocket. At 20 years old he is still filling out his frame and I would like to see if he can add more weight and still keep the same speed and explosiveness. His frame also makes him a versatile player. It allows him to play in the box as an inside backer and line up as an edge rusher. His versatility makes him a great prospect and a great addition to any team that wants to draft him. Reese does a good job at diagnosing plays and is able to see which hole the ball is coming through and makes a play on it. In coverage his skills are decent, but his speed helps make up for it. He is able to stick with his man and keep his eye on the football but does seem to hesitate at times when trying to figure out what route his opponent is going to run.
The one thing he needs to improve his game is his hands. He needs to learn how to use his hands especially in the run game to shed blocks when facing offensive linemen that reach the second level. Extending his arms can also help with his pass rush. Reese relies heavily on his speed and if he can learn to use his hands to rip or develop a dip it will make him a better pass rusher and a better overall player.
Scheme and Team Fit: 3-4/4-2-5
I believe Reese is best suited for 3-4 or 4-2-5, but it depends on where coaches want to play him. The Jets, Titans, and Cardinals would be good fits.
NFL Player Comp: Jalon Walker
Had similar roles in college and similar play style. Reese is taller, but they have a similar frame. They both have the ability to be a standup edge rusher or play in the box.
Projection: High End Starter
He has the ability to be a starter and a really good player in the NFL due to his versatility and being able to play all over the field.
Grade and Round Projection: 6, First Round Pick
He is going to be a Day 1 pick. His grade was initially 5.71 but rounded it up to 6because of his versatility.
