Professional Biography

Dr. Carolyn E. Adkerson is a strategist, entrepreneur, and researcher focused on the evolving landscape of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) and athlete entrepreneurship. She is the Founder and CEO of 227 Advantage, where she advises organizations and athletes on strategic partnerships, brand development, and growth strategy. Dr. Adkerson earned her Doctor of Business Administration from Temple University’s Fox School of Business, where her research examined how women collegiate athletes navigate NIL opportunities and the emergence of the student-athlete entrepreneur. She also holds an MBA in Marketing and Brand Management from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management. A former collegiate basketball player at Spelman College, she brings both academic and lived experience to NIL education, athlete storytelling, and brand development, helping bridge research, industry, and student-athlete opportunity.
