Taylen Green is a 6’6”, 220-pound quarterback from the University of Arkansas. The Texas product played high school football at Lewisville High School in Lewisville, where he collected a group of G5 offers. Green was originally recruited to Boise State University, where he would redshirt his freshman year and put up solid numbers over the next three seasons before transferring to Arkansas, where he would pass for 2,714 yards and 19 touchdowns to 8 interceptions. On top of that, he would rush for an additional 777 yards and 8 touchdowns. Over the course of his career, Green would pass for 9,662 yards and 59 touchdowns to 35 interceptions, while racking up an additional 2,403 yards and 35 touchdowns on the ground.

Green is one of the most electrifying and puzzling players in this draft. His physical tools are a cut above just about any other quarterback in this draft class. His blend of size, speed, and arm strength is a unique combination that every offensive coordinator dreams of when imagining an ideal quarterback. Those traits have served him well throughout college, as he transferred to Arkansas after 2 successful years at Boise State. Over his collegiate career, he earned the 2022 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, the 2022 Frisco Bowl Offensive MVP, and the 2024 Liberty Bowl MVP, all of which were well-deserved.
Green’s main strength is his running ability, where his speed and size combine to make a player that is hard to bring down in space and whose speed enables him to break off big runs regularly. However, his mental game as a quarterback needs serious improvement. From presnap, everything is set up for him, so he does not make any adjustments. His pocket ability needs major work as well, with rushed footwork and serious issues getting the ball out quickly and accurately against pressure. He has a solid arm, but because of his footwork issues, his accuracy is consistently average in the pocket and better when he is on the move. He has a good competitive toughness, but struggles to make reads consistently at a high level. Green is in a unique position where he does not have to play like a traditional quarterback to maximize his athletic gifts, and a position change or limited gadget use as he develops could benefit him immensely.
Scheme Fit and Team Fit
As a quarterback, Green fits best in an option-based scheme that emphasizes QB runs and RPOs that feature short and medium route concepts. It will take an innovative and creative play-caller to get the most out of Green’s skill set, given his limitations.
The best teams that could make the most out of Green are the Packers, 49ers, and Broncos. Matt LaFleur did a great job developing Malik Willis and building the offense around him when he needed to, and he could do something similar with Green. Kyle Shanahan builds his offense around his playmakers and would be able to lean on Green’s strengths while using his other playmakers to minimize Green’s weaknesses. Sean Payton would get a lot of value from having Green in a Taysom Hill-like role.
NFL Player Comp: Terrell Pryor
My player comparison for Taylen Green is Terrell Pryor. Both players have similar physical traits and play styles, and, like Pryor, I think Green can switch to another position and excel with his physical traits if needed, and he would also excel with trick-and-gadget play packages.
Projection: Backup/Role Player
Green has all of the physical tools in the world, but slow processing abilities and limited pocket awareness hold him back. However, his pure athletic ability and upside should keep him around in the league for years.
Grade and Round Projection: 4.0, Fourth Round Pick
